“Beware of Spoilers, especially if you haven't finished Opal. (You don't wanna ruin it, swear. Like I did... =/)
Never a dull moment with this. There was always something that would hook me, whether it be an action scene, a funny Daemon/Katy moment, a steamy Daemon/Katy moment, or just Daemon in general...
Katy and Daemons relationship definitely progresses in this book. Daemon's 'jerk'-side is subdued by his more affectionate one and let me tell you, it's totally swoon worthy. I am extremely jealous of Katy (a fictional character, go figure). I just loved that Katy finally accepted her feelings for Daemon and wasn't trying to shove them back down her throat (all she was doing now was trying to shove his tongue down her throat hahahah).
Stepping away from Katy/Daemon moments (because Lord knows those two can short circuit a fuse with their constant making out) I wanted to talk about Blake.
I am SO disappointed in Blake. I felt kind of betrayed because like Katy, I felt sympathy towards the guy but damn
What a back-stabbing asshole. I really was rooting for him, in the sense that you know, he was a good guy and all. But Biff totally betrayed me not to mention confused the SHIT out me.
Why did he act all stalker-y with Katy, coming to her bedroom at night to steal pervy kisses from her? We definitely know that he likes her. But then he goes and betrays them all. Really? You like Katy enough to enter her room at night and possibly face the wrath of Daemon, only to end up betraying her? Okay, yes, he can't let Chris be hurt and their 'bond' is strong and what not, but shit if his actions didn't confuse me. I hope this isn't the last of what we see of him, I'd like to see him get what he deserves... by Daemons hands no doubt.
Ash and Andrew were still all 'bitch-please' towards Katy, but Dee...
Dee, Dee, Dee.... how my heart aches for you... NOT. Ok, maybe just a little, but seriously? Stop blaming Katy for Adams death! I understand that you lost your boyfriend and alien companion. I really do. But she just kind of annoyed me for the first half of the book. After that she was tolerable enough, but not the Dee that I really loved in the first two books.
I kind of understand her though. The death of someone close to you can alter you irrevocably and not for the better either. And how do you go back you know? When in your heart you begin to understand... there is no going back. There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep. That have taken hold. (Props to you if you noticed that was an LOTR quote, lets be best friends yeah?) But I guess even death can strain the best of friends... pity.
One thing did kind of annoy me. Katy's need to mention how hot Daemon is. First of all, stop rubbing it in to those of us who have no Daemon in our lives! Second, we get it. He's hot. I let it slide though, it's just one of those nit-picky things that I don't like in book protagonists.
THAT END. THAT MOTHERFUCKING ENDING.
Katy got left behind and oh my god! DAEMONS REACTION.. AND HIS CONFESSION OF LOVE AND HIS NEAR SUICIDAL ATTEMPTS TO SAVE HER AND......
FUUUCCKKK. I really hope they don't turn her into whatever Simon was on, and I REALLY FUCKING CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK. DAMN DAMN DAMN.
I honestly thought this book series was a trilogy until I was more than half way through with the book. You know, the whole 'trilogy until proven otherwise' rule seems to apply to ALL YA books now-a-days. I had no idea until I did some further investigating only to find out that movie rights have been sold for Obsidian... FUCK YES! It's the closest to a Roswell revival I'm gonna get lol
At least the next book comes out August so, not too much waiting. Except school might get in the way..... yeah, I'll cross that bridge when I get there.”

“Katy and Daemon have been together for a while now and bad things keep happening to them. Dawson is back but he only wants to rescue Bethany. Blake is back after killing Adam and he wants them to help rescue his Luxen friend Chris. Dee is barely speaking to Katy, so they plan the big rescue. Once again, Blake sets them up. Everyone escapes except for Katy....
Can't wait for the next one!”
“Hated the cliffhanger ending. Such a cop-out when authors do that. Story was good, however.”Valerie F wrote this review Monday, June 10, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“It wasn't bad, but overall it didn't strike me the way that the other two books did. Maybe because I'm more interested in the romance than the evil government plot.”Lovelypenny wrote this review Wednesday, June 5, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“With the second book surpassing the first, I was expecting things to keep getting better and for this to be my new favorite, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. This was my least favorite of the three.
While it was nice that Katy and Dameon were finally an official couple, I got tired of reading page after page of them making out. The romance was really steamy in this one, a whole slew of descriptive make-out scenes along with one sex scene. I was really getting tired of hearing about Dameons rock-hard abs and great body. It’s book three, I’m pretty sure we all know what he looks like at this point and the fact that he’s hot! I don’t need Katy to go over these points every time he enters a room!
The story was pretty slow going. There was a little action at the beginning followed by a lot of training and build up for the big action scene at the end. And to make matters worse, that scene it had been building up to for 366 pages cuts off during the most intense moment of the book. Bam. Gone. Nothing. I cannot even believe it ended where it did. Probably one of the worst cliffhangers I’ve ever read! I was one Miss Cranky Pants that night, that’s for sure.
I loved getting to learn more about Dawson in this one. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him at first since he hardly ever talks, but he really started to grow on me by the end. I discovered that there’s a short story called “Shadows” that is all about Dawson and Beth before all the crap hit the fan. Hopefully that will give us a better look at what’s going on inside that brain of his ;) I’ll definitely be reading it sometime during my three-month wait for book number four!
