“It hasn't brought much more than the original emotional intelligence. Being written by multiple writers, it lacks coherence. I thought it would be more of a practical guide to introducing the previously described principles of emotional intelligence into business world systematically. All it does is re-emphasise the importance of EI. ”

Notwithstanding the extensive support and the documentation from academic literature, authors Daniel Goleman (author also of the classic Emotional Intelligence), Richard Boyatzis and Annie McKee have written an intelligent, lucid, easily accessible presentation. They contend that, with practice, you can develop the critical leadership competencies of self-awareness, self-management and social/relationship skills. Although the authors may understate the difficulty of developing these abilities, getAbstract finds their arguments reasonable, persuasive and useful.”

As we adjust to a less directive approach to leadership in this post-industrial age we must become aware of competent in the emotional arts involved in leadership. Goleman et al do an artful job at describing and making sense of the role of EI in the context of leadership. They make a great case for the ability of all to progressively learn better EI skills that be applied to the adjustment that must be made to leading a generation that expects it.”
