“Eighty days is a remarkable account of a race to travel around the world by Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisand. Starting in New York in 1889 Bly heads east while Bisand travels west. Both women are newspaper reporters but from there the resemblance ends. Nellie is a bold American girl while Elizabeth is a well spoken intellectual who is comfortable in the company of the literati of the day.
As things turn out Elizabeth Bisand fades into relative obscurity while Nellie Bly becomes America’s darling. For a time Bly’s celebrity was greater than the Beatles who rose to fame three quarters of a century later.
I loved this book and I hope that someone sees fit to make it into a movie.
