“Nice ending to the series. The series is an okay read, but not one that I would ever choose to re-read.”Kathryn wrote this review Friday, September 6, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“What a crazy action packed adventure this final book has been. It felt so epic even if it was shorter that the first two books. There’s a lot of traveling within the states and to places on the other side of the globe. A lot happens. It’s exactly what you want in a series conclusion. There were parts that made me laugh, or cry or root for the characters. There were surprises, either wonderful or terrifying. There was romance and friendship. After such a wonderful series, I wonder what Courtney will come up with next. I was hoping for a spin-off series, but a new series would be okay too.
At the beginning, Will’s hurt. I was missing Will badly, but Cadan was just so kind and wonderful. For a mostly demonic reaper, he’s a trustworthy friend. He has a good heart and that’s what matters. I don’t think I could pick a team, because Ellie and Will are clearly together. Love triangle over. You can let me have Cadan now! Not that this is a spoiler, but of course Will doesn’t die. I just can’t tell you how she saves him. Cadan actually helps her save him. I love Will still, because he’s so hot (well, the illustration of him on my Angelfire book mark is). I want an angel(ic reaper) boyfriend! (Demonic only if it’s Cadan). Will loves Ellie so much. I remember in Wings of the Wicked how he said he liked carrots, but he knows that Ellie love Coldstone anything. He knows her so well, and worries about her because he’s her Guardian.
Other characters that I like: Marcus. He is so funny. Him and Kate (Ellie best human friend) are still dating. They’re perfect for each other. I’m still sad that Nathaniel is gone. He was one of my favorite. He was bookish and smart and kind of like a young looking uncle to Will, and a good friend.
I also love some of the new characters we meet. Ethan Stone is really hilarious. He’s a real smart-arse. There’s this part towards the end when he’s plays AC/DC in a church. You’ll see. I was LMAO when I read it. I must have underlined almost everything he said because he was that funny.
I underlined quotes and metallic forest-green gel pen. A new gel pen. The ink’s pretty much almost gone because I underlined so much. So many funny or beautifully written sentences, phrases and dialogue.
I loved all the traveling in this book. I wonder if Courtney’s actually been to all these places or if its research or people she knows have been there. I loved the descriptions. I pictured them even without photo reference. I still wish I looked them up. Oh well, I like to use my imagination.
I was so sad and worried toward the end. I didn’t want Ellie to loose herself. Her Gabriel self is just so different because angels aren’t supposed to feel emotions. They’re like killer robots in that way. “Must obey orders. Must destroy…destroy…” (lol…not exactly like that).
There’s a surprise ending in the epilogue, so don’t sweat it. I was hoping for more, but it made me stop crying. It’s kind of bittersweet that way.
Cover Art Review: Not as good as the first 2 book’s covers. I don’t like the top the model’s wearing. The background is more natural this time, but there’s still stone. I wish the title was a different color. They could have done a lot better. It’s still semi-metallic with a gloss finish. There’s a green metallic embossment of the title on the inside cover.
“I can honestly say as soon as this one was delivered to my door I was like a kid on Christmas day tossing packaging everywhere. Once I got it in my hands, I gave my husband a glance, to which he sighed and told me to go read "my precious." I almost felt bad. Almost. I have been so excited for Shadows in the Silence to release since I finished on that somewhat cliff hanger of Wings of the Wicked last year. So now you are all wondering if my excitement was worth the wait. Guess what....it was, every dang minute of it. OMG did Courtney ever deliver. I don't think I have ever been this happy about the final book to a series. Shadows in the Silence blew me away. Literally out of the ballpark.
I have read several reviews berating the story because it either had too much romance or everything just seem to be too easy, or of course they didn't like Ellie's/Gabriel's reaction to things and finally the one where the epilogue just left people wondering how it happened. Really people, your mad over this? No, please stop with the romance, I can't take anymore....really? I for one was looking forward to seeing way more Ellie/Will sexy time. And BTW Courtney, well played. I was really not sure what to expect but you did a fabulous job, it was just plain perfect. As for everything being too easy, eh as far as I am concerned I think Ellie and gang deserved a break. Not to mention I didn't think anything really came easy, it just started to fall into place for the epic battle to come, hey it was destiny. Now about Ellie/Gabriel's reactions. Okay the one comment I kinda took issue with was the whole Cadan/Azrael situation. Okay so the person wanted more reaction to it. Honestly how long was she supposed to react? I mean for the love of alien babies everywhere there was a big epic battle going on at the time. She didn't have time to drag it out in her head, she had to act and move forward. Sitting there and bemoaning life sucking at that moment could very well equal death to herself or all those she was leading into battle. Lastly the epilogue. Is it really so much to ask for a little faith. I mean she's an angel for heavens sake. I will just leave this with a few words. God works in mysterious ways.
Now back to my fangirling. Yep you have all been warned! Ellie, OMG girl you sure kicked some serious ass to the point of being a little bit scary. Wow Ellie pulled it together, and stepped up to her destiny like a true hero. I will admit there were a few touch and go moments where I was all OMG NO this can't be happening, but yeah it was. The best thing about it all was that even though she was scared about the outcome she kept going right up to the last minute. Even when things were so bleak on surviving the battle with all of her friends and comrades she still pushed on. I couldn't believe the amount of hope and faith she had to keep going. Especially when she found out that one thing. Just wow, man Ellie you are one strong woman. Now on to Ellie and Will. I have been waiting for these moments since way back in Angelfire when I met this epic pair. Ellie and Will finally come together like they were meant to be. Heck it has been over 500 years in the making and finally it is here. Expect some serious sexy time ladies. *swoon*
Will you are one hot Angelic Reaper. I don't think there is any better book boyfriend than Will, and yes I am going to say it, I love him more than Jace from Mortal Instruments. Trust me this is saying something, just ask my Husband. Will is everything a girl could want and then some. This man just takes perfect to a whole new level. He has a lot of crap to deal with in Shadows in the Silence and he doesn't back down. Sure he is being torn apart but he still holds on to the end. I honestly can't say that my heart wasn't torn apart for him, it was. To face what he had to and keep going was just amazing. I love this guy, I really do. See ladies it just goes to prove that the good guy is equally good to the sarcastic bad boy. Will will have your hearts all swooning with love and have you thinking of having Angelic Reaper babies. Will is Ellie's other half, no doubt about it. This man is perfect for her in every way. Trust me if you were not team Will you will be by the end of Shadows in the Silence.
Overall Shadows in the Silence was the perfect conclusion to the Angelfire series. Rarely is there a series I adore from book one to the end, but this series is one of them. Don't let your dislike of the whole angel genre being all the same make you miss out on this series. Shadows in the Silence was a fast paced action packed roller coaster. For those who love romance just as much as the action (people like me) this book will provide it. I was never bored, I just couldn't put it down. While I am sad to see this series end I am very satisfied with the outcome to the series as a whole. It is definitely a keeper on the top of my book shelf. For those of you who have not read this series I urge you to, you won't regret it. Courtney, amazing job, thank you for making Shadows in the Silence everything I hoped it would be.
Oh and on a final note, Cadan rocked it like no tomorrow. I would really love to see a spin off series with him and some of these other super hot Demonic Reapers that just happen to be on the good guys side. Man I would love to get me some Cadan!
“While I enjoyed the first two books in the Angelfire series, this book had a hard time keeping my attention. There was too much religion stuff, names of Angels and Demons and things I couldn't remember or keep straight. And there was lots of action but I couldn't remember why certain things had to happen.
I found a lot of the things Ellie said or thought to be cheesy. And I feel like everything came to Ellie too easy. She needed some hard-to-get item from some scary angel yet the angel gave it up easily. She needed to find a relic--she found it and was given it freely. It just seemed all too neat.
Maybe I'm just in a cranky mood, but I was hoping for more in this final book in the trilogy. Unfortunately, I just couldn't stay interested.
