“I find some of the stereotypes this author relies on for her characters unflattering. The mystery was practically nonexistent as well.”danae wrote this review Friday, October 25, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“This is the 7th book in the Ghost Hunter Mysteries series featuring MJ Holiday, who is a spirit medium that can talk to the dead. Her boyfriend Heath Whitefeather is also talented in that area, and together they are part of the ghost hunting crew for a TV show called Ghoul Getters. Her best friend Gilley Gillespie is the tech support on the crew, but he is also the biggest scaredy cat when it comes to ghosts. On a trip to Whales to investigate Kidwella Castle in Northern Wales, the director Gopher made the mistake of telling Gilley what they would find at the castle while they were still on flight. Of course Gilley didn't even want to get off the plane after that. Having the story start off with Gilley's fear filled antics (he really is a drama queen about it) wasn't really a great way to start a story, in my opinion.
Once they arrive at the castle, though, is when things get interesting! Heath and MJ are given rooms in the most haunted part of the castle, and MJ is woken up by a weeping woman she encounters in the hallway. Later on they encounter the Grim Widow, who allegedly drowns unsuspecting guests in the castle's moat. That very evening a new victim is found drowned in the moat. Not long after, a second victim is found! The victims may have had help into their watery graves from someone in the land of the living!
Meanwhile, the networks are pressuring the team to send footage in withing 24 hours, or their jobs might be forfeit! Even when one of their own is nearly taken by the Widow, the networks are still insistent! MJ discovers another startling fact on what has befallen the spirits of the victims, the Widow has trapped them with her, and that is making her even stronger! So, MJ and crew have to find a way to free them, get rid of the Widow, and save their jobs!
This was a fast paced scary mystery, and it's not until they dig into the past to discover a pattern that helps them to solve what is happening! After getting past Gilley's antics... The story was a great read!”
“Gillie is really starting to annoy me. If he's that scared of ghosts, he needs to not go with M.J. on ghost busting trips.”Jenn Donner wrote this review Saturday, June 8, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“It’s another haunted castle for MJ Holiday & company. This time it’s Kidwella Castle in northern Wales. Once again it’s a fairly light fun paranormal mystery. ”Celtic_Witch wrote this review Tuesday, April 30, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“In Laurie’s paranormal mystery novel, Kidwella Castle in northern Wales is the destination for M.J. Holliday and her crew of ghost hunters as they prepare to investigate the reported haunting of the Grim Widow—a deadly ghost who allegedly drowns unsuspecting guests in the nearby moat. Their cable TV show, Ghoul Getters, demands great footage of the haunting even as fear ripples through the workers once it becomes clear that the two most recent victims had help from the living before the ghost finished them off. The local authorities suspect a serial killing duo, but M.J. isn’t convinced. To investigate thoroughly, M.J. will need to go deep into the castle and dig up any and all buried secrets that might be confined to those dark depths.
Lots of paranormal chills and thrills coupled with healthy doses of fun and romance. A great installment to the A Ghost Hunter Mystery series.
“Kidwella Castle in Northern Wales is home, according to local lore, to the Grim Widow. The widow enjoys drowning unsuspecting male guests in her moat! Is there a more alluring venue for M.J. Holliday and the crew of 'Ghoul Getters' a reality based television show?
As M.J. and Heath Whitefeather, beau and fellow psychic, prepare for their encounter, two fellow visitors to the castle are added to the roster of the drowned. The local police inspector feels that a mortal hand is the causation, which would mean a double threat to all in the castle.
I enjoyed this book and haunt a good deal but was a bit weary of main character Gil's continued whining throughout the tale. I found myself skipping over his dramatic parts. It is notable as Gil was one of my favorites in the earlier volumes.
I did like the ending, which due to not wishing to spoil the tale, cannot reveal. I liked the handling of the victims upon the justice served to the perpetrators of the crimes. I am sorry to learn that the next volume won't be out until January 2014, but having read the excerpt, I will be lined up to buy it!”
“M.J. Holliday and her crew are sent to Kidwella Castle in northern Wales to film her ghost hunting cable TV show, Ghoul Getters. It is said to be haunted by a deadly ghost they call the Grim Widow. The Grim Widow is said to drown guests in the moat and roam the halls. M. J. and her boyfriend Heath find themselves face to face with a nasty ghost on their first night and two new victims are added after the crews arrival.
I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the ghost chase, history discovery and mystery but other parts became annoying. The "What was that" Did you hear that" Panic at every turn and not being able to tell a ghost from a live person became very old fast. They are professional ghost hunters, you would think after a while they would do the shut up, observe approach and not the OH NOOOO RUNNNN AND SCREAM. PLEASE like I said, got old. I also find it annoying to have a person on the crew that truly does not want to be there and just adds unnecessary drama to the task. I am tiring of some of the characters lack of growth and others being self centered. ”
