“This book was so quick and good that it kept me up on my toes the whole time. I do hope though, that just like how Aiden wants to bring back Alex, Alex will bring back Seth[3 ”Sarb wrote this review Monday, August 26, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“Let me begin by stating this one simple but very true fact…
I have ALWAYS been team Aiden!
I never wavered. I never jumped on the Seth bandwagon. NEVER. I knew what that kid was all about. Yep!
You might want to read Deity before reading this little bad boy because it will spoil Deity for you if read it first. I also want to mention you want to read this one before reading Apollyon. I haven’t read Apollyon yet but it just seems like the most natural thing to do.
Elixir is Aiden’s story. It is hard to really review this one without spoilers because absolutely everything about it is spoiler-ish. What I will say is that you get to understand Aiden on a deeper level and his thought process. Elixir picks up right where Deity ends diving into a month long description of “holy crap that just happened”. This was pretty awesome because when I tell you that Deity’s ending was crazy, I do mean it was crazy and it was nice to know what has happened since then, sooner rather than later.
At any rate it was awesome being in Aiden’s head. He’s not perfect. There are flaws. However, his flaws and imperfections come from wanting to do the right thing and living an honorable life. He has a beautiful soul and a beautiful heart. I was already in love with Aiden before Deity and Elixir. Deity and Elixir just intensified that feeling and reconfirmed what I already knew he was all about.
Deity and Elixir also made me love the series even more. I honestly believe this is the best series JLA has to date and it is also the most consistent. This world is a very strong one with interesting characters and wonderful surprises. Love it!
“Love is such a wild and reckless creature. It cannot be planned or threaded. It cannot be controlled. Love can coexist with Fate, or it can undo it. Love is the only thing more powerful than Fate.”
P.S. On another note: I didn’t take points or stars off for this but it was a bit annoying. .. I’m reading Elixir and I read Elixir until the very last page on my Kindle. Lo and behold, there is a little blurb stating that all novellas in this series and other series are available to download for free, always, at Spencer Hill Publishing. I paid for my copy. Why have it on sale if it will always be available for free in a bunch of other formats I could have downloaded instead on the publisher’s website? Or have it as an option to buy permanently. Feels shady. Sorry.
Go to the website folks…
We may now continue with our previously scheduled programming…”
“Elixir is Aiden's point of view of the events that took place right after Alexandria awakened and connected to the First(Seth). I really liked it, I not only got to hear from Aiden's perspective but I got to see a different side of him. Aiden was still Aiden, sweet, caring, responsible and lets not forget bad-ass. What Aiden had to deal with, seeing Alex lost in her all consuming connection to Seth, something she feared and not being able to help her brought out a rage filled side to Aiden. He was completely on edge, and would snap at anyone who was not on Alex's side. I was most afraid for him when he would lose it on Apollo. But thankfully Apollo gave him a pass.
Elixir shows Aiden's struggle to help Alex block her connection to Seth, which was not easy since she didn't know she wanted to do just that. Aiden had to make a choice between two evils that Alex was always afraid of happening. Which is the lesser of the two or are both equally bad. Let Alex stay in her consuming connection to Seth or put her on the Elixir. The drink given to half's put into servitude. Or is there a third option, one that doesn't make him hate himself, but might be more difficult to achieve.
Elixir was a nice little in-between story leading up to Apollyon. Since that book will be from Alexandria's point of view I think I will be thinking of how Aiden is dealing with everything in that book. I will have a deeper understanding of how he copes with insurmountable stress, I already know how he feels about Alex. We also get to hear from other loved characters. Really nice POV.”
“This is a novella about a time they don't show in the main books but just allude to and share bits of. It was good to see the whole thing and the struggle Adien has and pain he is going through. I enjoyed seeing things through Adien's point of view. He loves her so much and would do anything for her. Even punch a God. Go Adien!”Veray C wrote this review Wednesday, May 8, 2013. “Its never happened before. I never like the first guy. The one they always choose (with TWO exceptions that I've ever read). But Jennifer l Armentrout may be doing the unthinkable.
The first guy had grown on me. GROWN ON ME, LIKE A NEW COMFORTABLE ARM.
And no, it wasn't just because Seth turned into a massive douche. Aiden has just grown on me. It started out towards the second half of Apollyon, and now I think its set. I'm a team switcher! A TRAITOR!.......and if I'll be honest........I think I love it.......”

If you follow the Covenant series, then this is a novella you really should read. I usually deem novellas unnecessary, but in this case I think you need to read Elixir to get the full effect of Apollyon. You will not lose out much on valuable information, but you will lose out on emotions. In Apollyon, Aiden's feelings and behavior reflect from events that happen in Elixir. It's the same with Alex. You get a much clearer picture of who she is while connected to Seth. Plus this novella is written from Aiden's point-of-view and it's free to download!”
