This book hits you like a freight train and does not stop. From Chapter 1 until the end, this was one of those books that I could not put down. Incredible well written and chronological, it opens the readers eyes to the reasons why the Church had committed such atrocities and their affect on the Church even to this day.

The Dark Side of Christian History is an answer to those of us who have always believed Christianity to have been nothing but peaceful and benevolent. Helen Ellerbe documents and details the many atrocities and sheer wickedness that have taken place throughout Christian history - all in the name of the sweet and gentle savior, Jesus Christ. Everything from the Inquisition to the burning at the stake of those who dared to translate the Bible and make it available to the common man is included in this sordid reading that proves the adage of famous Mathematician Blaise Pascal: "men never commit evil so cheerfully as when they do it from religious conviction."

Some very, very bad things have been done in the name of J.C.

Before reading this book I knew Christianity and religion in general had caused numerous problems and countless deaths. This book spoke in depth about the devastation of holy wars and of the nastiness of several Popes from centuries past. It was actually quite sickening and doesn't make organized religion very appealing at all. Eye opening and well written.
