This one isn't what you expect it to be. A fairy tale it may be, but one full of suspense and heartwarming laughter. It is an easy read for an afternoon of relaxation. A very fun book that won't let you put it down.

I really didn't like this book. I thought the premise was interesting but it really was just a lackluster book. I couldn't stand the ending. The main character really got on my nerves a lot. If you really have to read this book then borrow it from someone. Don't waste your money buying it.

Loved this book. The strong messages about family, friendship, cooperation, and being true to yourself are universal.

I like this book a lot. I'd recommend this to girls (especially with big hopes and dreams). The end is a big twist so you kinda feel like you can't believe it's true. This book basically tell a story how a girl would feel in Miri's place. I like this book and I think you would like it.

Love it. I feel that it is important to read books that explain life styles that you may or not be fimilliar with.

It was good, but I felt like I didn't get to know the characters very well-- it didn't pull me INTO the story. I wasn't there.

This was our first book club book, and the only reason I put 2 stars was because it was kind of funny and scary to the "princesses". If someone asked me if they should read this, I would say no try something else.

Miri lives on a mountain where, for generations, her ancestors have quarried stone and lived a simple life. Then word comes that the king's priests have divined her small village the home of the future princess. In a year's time, the prince himself will come and choose his bride from among the girls of the village. The king's ministers set up an academy on the mountain, and every teenage girl must attend and learn how to become a princess.

Miri soon finds herself confronted with a harsh academy mistress, bitter competition among the girls, and her own conflicting desires to be chosen and win the heart of her childhood best friend. But when bandits seek out the academy to kidnap the future princess, Miri must rally the girls together and use a power unique to the mountain dwellers to save herself and her classmates.
