  • Can't Read Enough

    can't read enough said:

I'm 35 years old and to this day I remember my 5th grade classmates and I crying like babies when our teacher read it to us. My mom bought it for me from the Weekly Reader book sales. I must have read it 20 times. I haven't read it in years, but I still have images of him buying candy in an old store. The boy saving up him money to buy the dogs and him traveling to get the dogs. Even as a 5th grader, even though I grew up in a small Missouri community, I understood how much times had changed from when the character in the book lived to when I was a kid. And, of course, the ending of the book made me cry every time.

I still have the copy of the book my mom bought me. I hope when my children read it when they get older, "Where the Red Fern Grows" affects them as much as it did me.
