“This forest has a pulse. It beats in my chest. I can see it in the eyes of the beasts. Together, we move to this rhythm. It calls to us. It calls for blood.” Samantha and Brandon, two American adventurers, are conducting an aerial survey of central Africa, when they wander into hostile militia territory and are shot down into a dense region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Completely lost and with militia soldiers after them, they are desperate to find civilization. But something is wrong in the forest. The animals behave suspiciously -- aggressively -- and some unknown presence shadows the couple's progress, entering their dreams and toying with their very thoughts. Meanwhile, a pair of chemists for a Britain-based pharmaceutical company is also in the jungle with a small security detail, searching for a rare flower, a potential viral panacea. These two groups converge to confront both the genocidal rebels and the mysterious "ghost of the blood forest". The chemists are obsessed with finding the flower. The Americans must recover their plane if they hope to escape. But the Blood Forest keeps them all trapped, with a secret that is more complex and sinister than any of them realize.
