“New Zealand Detective Sam Brooker is a chain-smoking, hard-drinking, bitter man. He’s bound to be even more so after this latest discovery. He and another detective John Thompson are called in on a double murder case.
15-year old emo Grace Alexander didn’t make it easy on her captor when she was violently taken from her home and then imprisoned by chains connected to the ceiling of a room in a strange place.
Parts of this are a real page turner. There was an unexpected twist thrown in much later in the story which is bound to have the reader guessing what that is. We uncover that mystery a bit later.
There are parts that had me wondering whether I had missed something though. For example, someone is dragging his/her self through their own blood. I went back more than once to see what I might have missed and nowhere did I read that that person was knifed/shot or whatever.
I appreciated that “Emotion” wasn’t overly long and dragged out but then it did end with the reader left hanging, making me wonder whether there will be a continuation.
I think 3.5 stars would have been about right but that's not an option and 3 stars would be less than this work deserves.”
