Didn’t Like It“Although this book was well-written, the plot was all over the place and I found it hard to sympathize with any of the characters. Lizard, the main character - - grew tired of his infatuation with the dancer Sylphide and the craziness of his sister Kate.” see full review » see other reviews » |

The style has echoes of John Irving--not a bad trait in my opinion. I was certainly interested to find out what happened, thought the characters were believable and quirky. ”

Yes | No“This book follows the story of a young football player who at seventeen witnesses his parents' brutal murder. Interestingly enough, though, that's not what this story is really about. It is more about a man adrift from others in life who for some reason can only connect with people in sexual ways. Whether that was deliberate on the part of the author, I don't know.
The novel reminds me of "The Hotel New Hampshire" in some ways. The classic Irving themes peek out in places, and the voice of the protagonist is arguably as strong.”
“Intriguing story following David "Lizard" Hockmeyer from high school to old age. He meets the love of his life, Sylphide while still in hs. The famous dancer and her even more famous rock star husband become intricately interwoven in the Hockmeyer family. Their relationship lasts for over 40 yrs. even though she marries other wealthy older men. Kate, David's sister, is consumed with solving the murder of their parents”
