This book would make an excellent addition to the library for the third grade social studies unit centered on New York. It could be used as a basic introduction to the study, as it gives a simple history and a good overview of the many buildings and places that make New York so special and diverse. The pictures and language are very accessible and vivid for children. I like how it includes the Statue of Liberty, Harlem, and Chinatown, which will be important parts of our "people of New York and immigration" curriculum.

I love this series and had them as a kid (I wish I knew where they went because a lot of them are out of print!) The illustrations are fun and the content informative without getting too crazy.
