- Jane: Jane has recently quit school and moved to her hometown to live with her sister for a while. She gets a job in the perfume department in the ferry that goes between Rødby and Puttgarden.
- Tine: Tine is Jane's big sister. She recently had a baby, Ditte, but Dittes father is not around. Tine has worked in the perfume department on the Rødby-Puttgarden ferry for many years. In this book she is going back to work after having her baby.
