  • Finn the Cat: The bored Banprionnsa at Castle Rurach. She is approached by a band of jongleurs on behalf of the Righ. Lachlan requires Finn's searching abilities in order to find and bring back something incredibly important...
  • Dide: A jongleur and one of the knights of the Righ. He aids Finn and the other jongleurs into the Forbidden Land.
  • Jay the Fiddler: Keeper of a very sacred viola which Enit has taught him to play. Old friend of Finn's.
  • Enit: Grandmother of Dide. An old jongleur who has the ability to sing Fairgeans to their death.

First Sentence

Finn brushed away the crust of snow and sat in the embrasure of the battlement, her legs hanging out.
