“This was not as good as her other books but a great resource all the same.
I would recommend it to any pregnant woman, especially women planning hospital births.”

It was very motivational for me as I wanted a natural, minimal intervention birth. It not only had information to help preapre me for natural birth and unmedicated labor, it had uplifting birth stories from many other women that had Ina May Gaskin as their midwife for their birth.”

I found myself listening to the various birth stories she recounted, and became interested in that part of the book as a result. I recently started feeling somewhat nervous about our impending first child and decided to read it, hoping to learn a little about the process and put to rest some of my fears. Boy, am I glad that I did. I feel more prepared for her birth than any amount of birthing classes could offer, and truly look forward to the experience. I recommend this book to anyone looking for information on natural childbirth or alternatives to the hospital birth model.”

Some parts are a little more granola than my inclinations, but it is all useful information. It's good to know your options!”

Whatever your personal views on childbirth, this book contains a wealth of helpful information about the birthing process. Reading the personal accounts of women's births gave me a more realistic idea of what birth would actually be like than any other pregnancy book I have read. I highly recommend this for anyone who is expecting a baby. ”
