I don't know if I made a mistake by not starting at the beginning of his books, but having just gone to Napa, and seeing his books at the CIA Greystone, I was intrigued. It really gave me great insight into the career arc of a chef, and the pressure of running/owning a restaurant. I told my friend that I'm going to have to start tipping better.
