This is a great book for those who, like me, aren't designers but are users of design who want to know more discourse in that extremely hermetic practice. The first section, which deals with theory, is excellent in that it nearly always illustrates the essays content through typography and layout. My favorite -- by far -- is the essay about the history of punctuation in western type, which is a pleasant read but also a demonstration of its content.
