My two favorite Grisham books are the Firm and The Pelican Brief. This was as much as a thriller as the Firm, but maybe with a little more political intrigue which drives the story.

From murders of supreme court judges for purpose of appointments of suitable judges so the verdict on an oil company would be in favour, to the environment issue about a state, and a brief written by a brilliant student who is persecuted by the killers and corporation and therefore ends up destryong their apple cart - or rather oil and other cartels. Not a moment of action wasted, not a word that could be edited out. As taut as it is about issues that matter, and so a must read by any who care about the world we live in.

Plot is fine .. I somehow feel the book is a bit overrated, but this is my first John Grisham book .. Stuff is fully predictable, characterization is poor, and it does not add to my general knowledge. Definitely not a page-turner for me. Now my friends have suggested that I read "The Last Juror". Let's see how it goes.

A very good book everyone should read! I was more paranoid than Darby, the author of the brief, as i flipped through the pages, scared of what would happen next. It's like watching a suspense/thriller movie that would make your heartbeat thump like crazy ^_-

better than the movie, really. the research and how it ties into the legal framework of the environmental and legislative scene is very good. it's impact on supreme court security and envioronmental issues is interesting.

Two Supreme Court Justices are killed within hours of each other, everyone is baffled, what is the link between the two murders?
A bright young law student, Darby Shaw, believing she could find the connection, embarked on an intense research of case files and wrote her findings in a brief.
Thomas, Darby's professor and boyfriend shows the brief to his friend in the FBI and up the line until it gets to the White House.
This starts a series of events, Darby fears for her life, and goes on the run.
With the help of Post reporter, Gray Grantham. They set out to prove Darby's theory.
I liked the story because it was fast paced and had me turning the page looking for the last fact to be unearthed and exposed.

This was the first John Grisham book that I read! I loved the premise behind a paper written and sent to a professor to read. Such an innocent request led to a web of intrigue and action. Great writing!
