Twisted

by Laurie Halse Anderson

High school senior Tyler Miller used to be the kind of guy who faded into the background—average student, average looks, average dysfunctional family. But since he got busted for doing graffiti on the school, and spent the summer doing outdoor work to pay for it, he stands out like you wouldn’t believe. His new physique attracts the attention of queen bee Bethany Milbury, who just so happens to... (read more)

Twisted is one of the coolest books I think that I have ever read. In my opinion the mood in the story is mixed with sadness, happiness, comedy and excitement, all in this cool book. A boy named Tyler falls for a girl named Beth (the coolest girl in school), but even though she falls for him, rumors and pictures get twisted. This turns Tyler’s life upside down and he has to face many hardships for many months; almost to the point were he wants to kill himself. I recommend this to almost anyone especially all of the guys because it really nails in what a teenage boys life is like (Can be like).

This book was dumb. It talks about his oppresive family and stuff, but mostly it's just him trying to control his over-active hormones. This is a problem for some teens, but it's not something I want to read about it such detail on a regular basis. The story kept looping back around to sex and i got bored with it.

One of the newer books at my local library is Twisted. This book potrays a whole new thing to me, but I’m not really so sure how to describe it. I thought it kind of got sad at some parts, if you read it you probably know what I’m talking about. Mhmm, well I really picked it out because of the cover. I do sometimes pick books out because of their covers or just randomly pick some from the library.

Tyler Miller's behavior and attitude tend to get him into a lot of trouble. First it was the graffiti to the school which landed him in community service. Then it was the accidental fight at his dad's boss' party. Now it's a misunderstanding about his affection for the boss' daughter and the naked pictures of her that have ended up on the Internet. What can he do to prove to everyone that he's innocent in all of this? (Well, of course- he was responsible for the graffiti- but everything else is just happenstance). It takes a gun, some cash and an empty house to prove to Tyler that sometimes, life is worth the risk.

Twisted was a good read even though its ending wasn't what I expected it to be. It's about a teenage boy named Tyler and how he went from being an oddball in school to being known as the bad kid who committed a crime. In the boo Tyler tries to grab the attention of Bethany, who is his father's boss' daughter.Tyler also struggles with his classes and never felt comfortable in school. The only friend he has was Yoda who was obsessed with Star Wars. His father was also in a bad mood and all this causes Tyler to think of suicidal thoughts. With the help of Yoda and his family, this thought was cleared off his mind.

What worked? Anderson delivers another novel full of voice, yet this time it is overloaded with male testosterone. She provides a gritty view of the coming of age for men.

What didn’t work? Through no fault of her own, I was disappointed to delve into the heart and mind of a teenage boy. I had no idea what they mentally and physically go through.

One year from now, what will I remember? I will never forget the scene when Tyler maintains his integrity (page 124). Even though he wanted to be intimate with Bethany, he knew the right thing was to sober her up and respect the fact that she was too drunk; he wanted their first time to be important and special.

This gripping novel flawlessly captures the feelings of an outcasted teenager. Anderson fills scenes with riveting action and plenty of drama to go around. There is never a dull moment in the book. Tyler’s narration is just as thrilling as it is shocking. Readers will enjoy the ride as they watch Tyler go through his ups and downs. Twisted is crafted with an intricate plotline and an unforgettable protagonist, all which adds up to a picture-perfect book.

Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson was a great book. It is a quick read and their are so many exciting things that happen so it is very hard to put it down. The characters are described perfectly and the events that happen are crazy and interesting. I can relate to some of the main character's life. I highly recommend this book, probably for girls who are teenage and older.

The book I read was called Twisted. This book was about this 17 year old kid name Tyler and all the stuff he went through his senior year. Tyler wasn’t really popular or didn’t get noticed. But when he got busted tagging the school, Tyler’s popularity boosted up and he was getting noticed by everyone in the school. He really like this girl name Bethany but he had a little problem Bethany was the sister of his worst enemy. He would do anything to get the girl of his life. And when I mean anything mean ANYTING. I will recommend this book because it was really good and it kept me wanting more.
