Good Harbor: A Novel

by Anita Diamant

Given the breadth of Anita Diamant's bestselling biblical epic, The Red Tent, it seems natural that her second novel has a much closer focus. Set in the small Massachusetts fishing town of Gloucester, Good Harbor is a slow-paced study of female friendship. Here Diamant can luxuriate in the development of just two principal characters: 59-year-old Kathleen Levine, a children's librarian who is... (read more)

A real disappointment after Red Tent; as Randy would say on Idol, "it was just OK, dog."

An OK read but not nearly as interseting as The Red Tent

Amazing story of friendship that crosses generations. Such an authentic look at the struggles of motherhood and wifehood. Loved it.

Good story, I will hang onto this book because I know sometime in my life I will have to lend this book out to someone who needs it. Quite a departure from The Red Tent, but I enjoyed it despite the poor reviews it received when it first came out.

A pleasant read. It started out feeling predictable, but then caught me by surprise. I discovered a new found appreciation and love for all my girlfriends and what they mean to me, and that kind of a feel-good book is worth reading.

Turns out I've read this before. I bet every single review of this book says "Not nearly as good as The Red Tent--but a pretty good read." I certainly didn't feel like this book was wasting my time--but if I was going to accidentally re-read something, this wouldn't have been my top choice. (Might've chosen Red Tent, actually, now that I think of it.)

After reading "The Red Tent" I was eager to read something else from this author. While this was enjoyable, it certainly wasn't the work of art that I think "The Red Tent" was.

disappointing considering the Red Tent. Still very good writing and very descriptive so you can really see what's going on and get behind the characters, but I didn't think it lived up to expectations.

Worth reading, but of course not as good as Red Tent.

I enjoyed this more than Red Tent, I found the friendship aspect nicely written and the struggles of the characters engaging and easy to read. Not a deep heavy book, but a fun novel and great escape. I enjoyed it.
