• The book begins with Greg talking about what his life was like before he was born. He describes being able to eat, play"love""swim" and sleep whenever he wanted in his mother`s stomach. He loved it, but sadly had to be born.born.

  Later Greg's family goes to Corney's, a family restaurant where the children are left to run wild. This means constant food fights, filthy conditions and mayhem.One example is when Greg is forced to travel into the Jungle Gym to rescue Manny, who is too scared to leave. Sadly, by the time Greg has found Manny, he too is terrified. In the end, Greg and Manny must must be saved by a Corny`s employee.employee.

  A week or so later, Greg`s Uncle Gary comes knocking and tell his brother (Greg's dad) that he must stay with him, because his T-Shirt business was a bust. Though his dad is unhappy, Greg's mom is perfectly fine with it. This means he gets allowance for doing nothing, is allowed to sleep on the couch and play online games all through the night.night.

  At school the PTA is holding School Elections. Much to Greg`s chagrin, you cannot run for any office if you have more than two detentions. Greg does, however, figure out that he can still hold an office.He comes up with a hair-brained scheme to have Rowley run for office and treat Rowley like a puppet, dictating his every decision. Rowley wins the election by default, because he was the only person to run for the office of Social Chairperson.Chairperson.

  In PE, Greg discovers that he must learn partner dancing. Greg tells the story of how last year he was paired with Baylee who this year made sure to tell him that that would not be happening again. After an announcement is made about a Valentine`s Day Dance, Greg figures he can use Rowley`s 'power' advantageously. He tries to find a date for the school's Valentine's Day dance through numerous methods, and eventually begging. He's worried that he'll be left without a date and while he knows that his friend Rowley is also dateless, that's not much comfort to him. Greg does manage to find a date named Abigail at the last minute, which leaves his friend Rowley as a "third wheel". Greg takes Abigail to Spriggo's, but he decides that it's for phonies. Rowley suggest they go to Corny's, which made Greg regret bringing Rowley with him. After they go to Corny's, they go to the School. Senior Citizens, however come and claim that they booked the Gym for a meeting. The Gym is parted into half before a fight begins between the Seniors and Girls.Girls.

  The book ends with Rowley and Abigail becoming a couple and Greg getting the Chicken Pox.
