“Another WOW story by author Grace Burrowes! I just love this story of love, duty & intrigue. That the setting was so close to Balmoral Castle in Scotland added to the appeal of the story. Wonderful characters & a great story to tell made this a fantastic read. I'm looking forward to the next installment of this trilogy.”Jencat wrote this review Wednesday, May 8, 2013. “Ian MacGregor is soon to be the Earl of Balfour, and he needs a wealthy bride to keep his estate afloat. So he decides on English heiress, Eugenia Daniels. She, her younger sister, her brother, her father, her aunt Julia, and her cousin Augusta all trek to Scotland where it is decided Ian will woo Eugenia and they will marry. Except Ian is more in tune with poor relation/chaperone, Augusta Merrick and she with him. Eugenia is in love with Gilgannon, Ian's brother. And Julia is in love with Connor, Ian's youngest brother. How all of this shakes out is perplexing, and in the process I came to dislike Eugenia very much.
I also disliked her father who apparently stole Augusta's inheritance, isolated her, broke off an understanding she had with a gentleman, and treated her poorly. Not to mention he tried to kill her.
I liked Ian and Augusta separately and together, but I didn't understand why it took them so long to end up together. I liked Ian's brothers, but I didn't care for Eugenia and Julia. I also didn't like the trio of romances because I felt it detracted from Ian and Augusta. Since I really didn't like Eugenia and Julia, I didn't CARE if they got their hearts' desires or not so I found myself skimming over these parts.
I probably would gave given this a keeper status without all the other stories intruding. I thought Willard Daniels was a little over the top, and I never understood why someone hadn't figured out he had shafted Augusta before now. Grace Burrowes writes well, and I usually enjoy her books. I hope the next book is not brimming with so many secondary characters finding their true loves.”
“Four love stories in one. Ian needs a rich bride to keep the MacGregors going. Eugenia was to be that heiress. AAugusta and Julia were chaperones to Genie and her sister, who are accomplanied by their brother Matthew. Connor and Gil are Ian's brothers. Their sister is Mary-Fran. As usual Ms. Burrowes sucks one into the story so that you want to just keep the story going. Augusta blossomed in Scotland while Genie finds Gil the gentleman she is looking for and Julia and Connor are matched. With some danger and intrique this is an all-around good book.
Quibbles: Would like to know more about Aher-and what was in his letters.”

“Grace Burrowes has a new series out, one with sexy Scots in it, and who am I to say no to that? ;)
Ian is in need of a wife, a very rich wife. He is a good guy and all that, but to support his people he needs money. I do feel sorry for him, as we know from the start that she is sure not the one he is going to want. No, the pretty young girl has her spinster cousin Augusta with her. Ok so here I think, why go for the older spinster? Well the rich girl in question hides in her room and does not want marriage. While Augusta is near and nice. They fit so good together, they can talk, but yes that dark cloud hangs over them. He needs money.
There is another thing in this book (besides the when when when! They must be together), that makes it thrilling. Augusta's uncle is a real piece of work, I just grew more and more angry with him. Grrr, you'll see.
And on top of that there are more hint of romances in this one. Yes passion afoot everywhere. Which made it fun. Whether those will get happy endings or not I will not say, cos I am evil that way ;)
A good romance with a hint of suspense and mystery”

My Thoughts and Review
I have to say that since the first time I picked up one of Grace Burrowes books that I just fell in love with them.
This was such a cute and enjoyable read that brought great enjoyment. This plot was engaging and found myself smiling throughout the story quite a bit.And you had to love the two main characters Augusta Merrick and Ian Macgregor but, I have to say I love Augusta the most she suprised me the most.Augusta is a spinsiter and a poor relation with cat in tow .But,Augusta is not really any of those things at all but, a bright, beautiful and intelligent, and funny and not what you would expect of a spinster at all not your meekly type even though she tries to stay in the shadows.
The almost Earl of Balfour Ian MacGregor is in need of a bride with tons of money to secure his clan future an invites his prospectve bride to his home to woo her. Little does he know his bride wants no part of marriage to him or anyone for that matter. But, he plans to succeed no matter what he needs the money a bride will bring to save the future of his clan and family.
Ian the dashing Scot who cannot help but be intrigued by Augusta instead ,she is not what he expected .
Ian and Augusta feel the same instant attraction for one another from the very beginning but, both know it will never lead anywhere so why bother to presue it.Ian though, can't stay away or seem to leave Augusta alone for very long so they strike a bargain to have a brief affair before he marries.
Life is never easy .You feel the pain for this couple as you see them slowly falling in love that will lead to know where but heartbreak. There were a lot of other things going on throughtout this story to engage you others in persuit of love others loving others that they cannot have .Someone trying to murder one of Ians guests making the plot even more intriguing.
Overall I loved this book and mostly because of Augusta she made the pages come alive. You could not help the ingenoius mind she had with no ill intent to harm others but bent on making them happy even at the expense of her own broken heart. Also you could not help but , love that she brought a rough and tough Scotman to his knees without plotting but, by just being herself.
All the other characters were engaging as well some playfull and some just down right deceitful and dangerous lending there own adventures to the story as well which kept you turning the pages to the point where you could not book put the book down and lead you to read the story into the wee hours of the morning.
I am a sucker for this kind of love story as I like rooting for the underdog in the story hoping the unspecting will achieve the happily ever after too !”
“A pretty good start to a new series featuring a clan of Highlander brothers and their lady loves. Ian, as head of the Clan MacGregor, feels as if he must marry a wealthy English lady to keep his family from going completely broke. Enter Genie Daniels, a rich English lady who's father is looking to buy a title in exchange for a rather large dowry. It seems to be the perfect solution to both their problems, of course if that were so we wouldn't have this little gem of a book. Instead we have a bride-to-be who doesn't want to marry Ian, a groom who falls in love with the wrong woman, two brothers who are also falling for the wrong women, a sister who doesn't care for the guest she should be playing hostess to, a small child who likes to get into everything, an uncle who is a nasty piece of work and a missing brother. Yeah, this is definitely worth a read. It was a fast and fun read that reminded me why I love this genre.
This was the first book of Ms. Burrowes that I have read and I can't wait to read more. I've actually had a couple of her books in my TBR pile for awhile now and now that I've read this I think I'll dig them out and start reading them this week. ”
