This is one of my favorite books of the year--if not for a long time. I loved it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I'll be reading more John Sanford for sure--especially Virgil Flowers' novels!

- Virgil Flowers: Investigator with the Minnesota , Bureau of Crime Apprehension (BCA). Seems to work more in the rural areas of Minnesota. Father is a Luthern minister and mother is tolerant.
- Lucas Davenport: Head of the BCA and Virgil's boss. John Sandford also writes the "Prey" series that features Lucas
- Jimmy Sharp: One of three teenagers that goes on a crime spree in rural Minnesota that Virgil Flowers investigates.
- Becky Welsh: One of the three on the crime spree. Thinks of herself as a modern day Bonnie and Clyde.
- Tom McCall: One of the three on the crime spree. Is quick tempered and probably the most dangerous of the three. Is more reluctent to participate than the other two.
- Marsha O'Leary: Went to high school with Becky Welsh and Jimmy Sharp. Father was the town pharmacist. Married John O'Leary and had two daughters. and four sons
- John O'Leary: Husband of Marsha O'Leary-Hogan. Father of Mary and Agatha.
