This is a short story and doesn't go into detail about the lives of these survivors but what is told brings back the tragedy of the sinking as well as the aftermath and how these people never forgot their experience. I thought it was a good read.

We all know the story of the Titanic, some from family, some from the recent movie. This is the story of the people who survived on lifeboat 8. It is written in the voice of the survivors and the bravery of those who chose to stay on board. The loading of the boat and the women rowing so hard despite crew members on board. The book echos the fears, loves, passion and anxiety of the survivors of this tragedy. Including the decision not to row back and look for survivors. I liked this a lot and would recommend it.

I'll read anything about the Titanic. I found out about this short 70 page novel, from an article in the New York Times, and bought it for $1.99 from Barnes and Noble, my first such kind of purchase.

I thought it was "ok", but it left me wanting.

This is a very small historical account of the sinking of the Titanic and the fates of those passengers who ended up in Lifeboat No. 8, which ended up being “manned” by the women on board, including the Countess of Rothes. Their lifeboat did not return to rescue any of the stranded and freezing survivors from the Atlantic, though the women wished to and said so. They were overruled by men onboard. Not a particularly enlightening account of the sinking, but certainly fulfills its goal of fleshing out the history of this particular lifeboat and those it carried to safety on the Carpathia.

This is a very quick and interesting read. A short story based on first hand accounts of survivors. I think even the kids would find it fascinating....although very sad. E
