Girl lands "dream job" at MI5 during a time when ladies typically only worked secretarial positions - though she unfortunately becomes quickly romantically entangled in her own "project" at her own doing. An entertaining read, though I wanted to slap the main character sometimes - she didn't seem to know she was speeding along her own career demise.

I enjoy McEwan's novels - mostly because of his writing. Often not a great deal happens in terms of plot - but I like the way the characters think and can empathize with them.

Diabolically clever, fiendishly entertaining. I guessed at the twist, and -- in e most banal, factual sense -- I was right. In another sense, though, I was more right than i had guessed. I've just finished it and my mind is still reeling.

Well, my first of Ian McEwan's novels. Definitely a complicated read. Much I did not exactly catch along the way. But the amazing last chapter was worth the read. I do like the writing style and attention to the surroundings. I will read more by McEwan. Awaiting book group discussion eagerly. 3 stars but really close to 4, so 3.5.

This is clever, but too full of shades. I think I would prefer it as a short story.

Finished about 1/3 of this one before I gave up. Not an easy to read story although it seemed from the reviews that it would be good.
