“I really enjoyed this book because it was different than anything I have ever read before. Normally, I'm not a big fan of short stories, but this book really made me change my mine. In a somewhat short novel, to fit in nine short stories that are actually GOOD seems pretty hard. However, in...”see full review » see other reviews »

“It was one of my favorite books so far, and it was full of different stories, some not as great as others but all were still fun to read about. I usually never read a book full of short stories but i actually liked this particular one.”claudia wrote this review Thursday, November 17, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? “This is going on my list of 'The 3 Best Books I've Read In The Last Year'. :) (joining The Help and This Is Where I Leave You)
I am not a big fan of the short story, but Julie Orringer's stories are magical. She's dead-on with the words and descriptions, bringing back memories in my mind of what it was like to be a kid, a teenager,... painting some very interesting pictures with her words.
The stories are intriguing and haunting, some ending just right and others leaving me wanting more, more, more!
I am looking forward to reading more by her. ”
“This is not my favorite genre (short stories) - but these continued to take me surprise - from beginning to end. I really liked this collection.”Mike Mather wrote this review Wednesday, April 27, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“I started reading these stories Christmas Break of senior year, and every now and then I'd read another. It's better that way, though, because while I did like the stories, I felt like they were sometimes pretty similar to each other in tone and content, and so reading them one right after the other would have felt repetitive. I'm trying to find the nicest way to say that I liked this book but I can't ever imagine a situation where I'd tell someone "I have the perfect set of short stories for you, you've got to read these ones right here.”Joel wrote this review Sunday, February 6, 2011. “Loved the short stories from this talented writer. Each main character faces a major emotional hurdle but learns how to "breathe underwater" to triumph over despair. Each story is uniquely written and I wanted each to go on. Highly recommend this collection.”Susan wrote this review Sunday, January 30, 2011.
