• Ann Silver: Midwest Homicide Investigator and Sheriff of a small town. Storyteller. Grew up in the poor section of Chicago. Visited grandparents farm in central Illinois in summers. Experienced pilot, has a computer engineering degree. Picks a new direction for hobbies every few years--coin collecting, art etc. Likes to walk. Prefers quiet scenes like a walk on a beach with her dog to going out to busy places. A writer. An introvert. Likes to work from 10 PM to 2 AM.
• Midnight/Black: Ann's big, beautiful, intelligent black dog.
• Sam Truebone: FBI Agent investigating the homicide at Falcon's. Also works with Paul on the Lady Shooter case.
• Eric Lorell: Inmate who conspired with his cell mate to have Ulaw killed.
• Margaret: Arthur's secretary.
• Greg Ornell: Alton, KY police department, partner of Ben.
• Jason: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team. Assigned to check out the bank angle of Ann's lead in the case.
• Neva Rawlins: Joe's mother
• Nathan Scholes: FBI agent; Good at voice identification/matching. Knows how to keep his mouth shut.
• Holly Sinclair: Kate's and Dave's daughter.
• Marcus O'Malley: Head of the US Marshals, Kate knows him well enough to call to request other agents by name, married to Shari.
• Kate Sinclair: Chicago's top homicide cop. Investigating a homicide at Falcon's. A lieutenant. Married to Dave Sinclair
• Susan DeMarko: Verone's neighbor. They trade weeks to grocery shop for each other. Was in the house when Verone was shot. Married.
• Joseph Falcon: One of Paul's brothers. Wants to buy a candy operation.
• Rachel O'Malley: Lisa's sister. Also a friend of Ann's
• Flint Meeks: Husband of Karen--suspect in his wife's murder.
• Edward Baine: Director of the FBI
• Elizabeth Verone: Hairdresser, homicide victim in Alton, KY. Neighbor of the DeMarkoes. Alternated grocery shopping weeks with her neighbor.
• William: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team. Assigned to comb the case files for names that match the other initials that Ann was able to decipher.
• Darcy St. James: Fictional main character in one of Ann's military books.
• Marie: One of Paul's sisters.
• Daniel: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team; assigned to the day planners to find fingerprints and to put the pertinent info. from them onto the boards for the rest of the team.
• Zane: Paul's predecessor at the FBI--pulled in as a safe place to drop tapes so that they won't be erased going through security.
• Vicky Bassett Falcon: Former CIA, Awarded the Intelligence Star for Valor, married to Boone Falcon. Met Ann through the former Vice President.
• Dave Sinclair: Husband of Kate, FBI agent. Knows Paul.
• Harper: One of Paul's brothers; has a broken finger that's healing.
• Victor Ryckoff: Died Oct. 7, 2002 - death being investigated by Paul. Code for his death found in a day planner recovered by Ann Silver. One of the victims of the Lady Shooter
• Rick Ulaw: Undercover Chicago Police Dept. Narcotics officer. Killed at Falcons.
• Tori Scott: US Attorney
• Tony Ryckoff: Brother of Victor.
• Boone Falcon: One of Paul's brothers; finds Scott Hickory seascapes for Paul. Married to Vicky
• Jack Chase: State Department official implicated on a tape sent by LS
• Larry Jenkins: Medora resident who has someone drive into his pond during Ann's last days as Sheriff.
• Paul Tudor Falcon: Adopted into the Falcon family but treated as the eldest son. It is planned he will inherit the Falcon family when his father dies. FBI Special Agent; An honest man who wants to do the right thing pleasing to God. At age 40 or so, decides he wants to get married. The first woman he then sees that attracts his attention decides he wants to marry her. Instead of talking and getting to know her, he talks to her friends to see how he should act and behave. He should be man enough to be himself for her to see if he is someone she would like.
• Sullivan: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team; assigned to check out the car Ann's sending the FBI and find out what evidence was missed in the initial investigation.
• Kevin: Cleaning up and renovating the Falcons restaurant.
• Sara: Married to Adam--the subject of one of Ann's books, Danger in the Shadows
• Marissa: Part of the Medora Police Department.
• Karen Falcon: Paul's mother (adopted).
• Tim: Add a description of this character.
• Jim Gannett: Former Vice President; Ann knows him well enough to call him late at night.
• Mr. Lewis Graves: Owner of the St. Charles, Missouri address given by L.S.; a high school science teacher.
• Christopher Zun: FBI agent that Kate likes to work with. Works many cases with Paul -including the lady shooter case.
• Arthur: Paul's boss--runs the Chicago office and the Midwest Region for the FBI. Reports to the FBI Director.
• Reece Lion: Secret Service to the VP. Fiance of a friend of Ann's who's a lawyer at the DOJ. Was Gannett's lead agent.
• Quinn Diamond: FBI agent that Kate wants heading up the manhunt for Waters. Married to Lisa. Owns a ranch.
• Lisa Diamond: Friend of Ann Silver. Goes with her to a baseball game. Married to Quinn--friend of Kate's. A crime scene investigator/Forensic Pathologist.
• Aaron Crown: Former Chief of Staff to Vice President Gannett. Deceased.
• Kelly: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team; assigned to follow up with the ME's office and gather information pertinent to the case.
• Gordon Whitcliff: Name of the man who owned the day planners Ann brought to Paul. Address in Reston, WV
• Kimberly Copper/Paulette Sunfrey: Artist, Paulette is her real name and Kimberly is her name now that she's in witness protection after testifying and in retaliation, having much of her art destroyed in an effort to flush her out.
• Jackie: Paul's sister.
• George Falcon: Paul's (adopted) father. Oversees the family and the running of its businesses though his sons manage the day-to-day operations.
• Luke Falcon: Relative of Paul's, also a subject of one of Ann's books. Married to Caroline.
• Linda Smythe: Fingerprints on package sent to Paul identify her; a Boston, MA resident.
• Shari Hanford O'Malley: Virginia Congresswoman, Marcus's wife.
• Caroline Lane Falcon: Luke's wife.
• Peter: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team; assigned to find out who the two men who were tailing Ann are and if they're still interested in her as well as any other information on them or their uplines.
• Yolanda Meeks: Died July 7, 1999 - case being investigated by Paul; her initials were found in a day planner recovered by Ann. One of the victims of the Lady Shooter.
• Franklin: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team; assignment is to coordinate with other agencies that might be involved in the lady shooter case and find out who they're hunting, what they know etc.
• Ben Harmon: Alton, KY police department. Investigating Elizabeth Verone's murder. Partner is Ornell.
• Rita Heart: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team. She's been with the team a long time. Now has become sort of a personnel manager for Paul's larger team.
• Jennifer O'Malley: Ann was asked to write her books about the others to show what Jennifer meant to them. Deceased.
• Miss L.S. Arnett: The lady shooter that Paul's been tracking for a number of years. Her calling card is a small white cube left at her shooting perch. Responsible for at least 30 murders.
• Andrew Waters: Killer of Rick Ulaw and others at Falcons--caught on tape. Wanted for a string of murders spanning several states.
• Trish: Waitress at Falcons; innocent bystander killed by Waters.
• Charles Ash: Name that Paul believes might be the identity of the man who hired the lady assassin he's been tracking for a number of years.
• Arnett: FBI agent that Paul sends to the lab with Ann's Diet Coke can; also assigned to the forged documents on the lady shooter case.
• Virgil Hale: Older man who knows Kate and Ann--blows stuff up for a living.
• Amy, Henry, Lou, Paula, Jenny, Karen, Nathan, Jeffrey, Melinda: Citizens of Alton, KY. Amy, and Paula were Verone's clients. Lou is Henry's son who got into trouble with Amy's son. Jenny and Karen are co-workers of Verone's.
• Kevin DeMarko: Susan's husband. Was the one to call the police about Verone.
• Grace: Fictional name of one of Ann's characters who is a navy pilot.
• Joe: Military man, friend of Ann's, he and his wife asked Ann to fictionalize their story.
• Elliott Reeve: Nebraska police officer investigating the murder of a teenager. Calls in Ann to help.
• God: Most of the main characters have a relationship with God through their Christian faith and believe that He cares for them and looks out for them.
• Shelly: Rita's contact in budgeting at the FBI
• Tom: Fictional Navy SEAL in one of Ann's military books. Appears in a passage that makes Paul think he knows who the story is about.
• Gina Lewis: Female name linked with Paul's romantically in the past.
• Joe Rawlins: FBI CounterTerrorism Director.
• Nita Stans: Lives in Medora, knows Ann, moving the same weekend as Ann is trying to move the files out of the Medora PD to the county.
• Kevin, Greg and Bob: County Police Officers who are moving pertinent files and cases to the county from Medora PD.
• Tom: Jennifer's husband. Now a widower.
• Thomas Gates: FBI legal--called in to write the agreement that LS requests.
• Daylor Globe: Mob boss implicated on a tape sent by LS

• John Doe Killer: Subject of a case that Ann worked on.

• Chappell, NB: Ann Silver is at a motel in this town when Paul initiates contact with her for the first time.
• Davenport, IA: Ann Silver works a case here. Paul goes to find her to tell her about the award the treasury dept. plans to give her for breaking a case for them.
• Medora: Ann lives about 6 miles north of Medora.
