The Lady Shooter, a hired gun responsible for dozens of murders, has managed to keep her trail cold. Though she’s long been inactive, Special Agent Paul Falcon refuses to give up the hunt. Then, Midwest Homicide Investigator Ann Silver seemingly appears out of nowhere and drops the best lead on the case that he’s had in years. But Ann leaves him with more than just good evidence—he also has a strong desire to get to know this clever cop better. Is he prepared for both the case’s and Ann’s secrets?

Prefers quiet scenes like a walk on a beach with her dog to going out to busy places. A writer. An introvert. Likes to work from 10 PM to 2 AM.

  • Nathan Scholes: FBI agent; Good at voice identification/matching. Knows how to keep his mouth shut.
  • Holly Sinclair: Kate's and Dave's daughter.
  • Marcus O'Malley: Head of the US Marshals, Kate knows him well enough to call to request other agents by name, married to Shari.

  • William: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team. Assigned to comb the case files for names that match the other initials that Ann was able to decipher.
  • Darcy St. James: Fictional main character in one of Ann's military books.
  • Marie: One of Paul's sisters.
  • Daniel: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team; assigned to the day planners to find fingerprints and to put the pertinent info. from them onto the boards for the rest of the team.
  • Zane: Paul's predecessor at the FBI--pulled in as a safe place to drop tapes so that they won't be erased going through security.
  • Vicky Bassett Falcon: Former CIA, Awarded the Intelligence Star for Valor, married to Boone Falcon. Met Ann through the former Vice President.
  • Dave Sinclair: Husband of Kate, FBI agent. Knows Paul.
  • Harper: One of Paul's brothers; has a broken finger that's healing.
  • Victor Ryckoff: Died Oct. 7, 2002 - death being investigated by Paul. Code for his death found in a day planner recovered by Ann Silver. One of the victims of the Lady Shooter
  • Rick Ulaw: Undercover Chicago Police Dept. Narcotics officer. Killed at Falcons.
  • Tori Scott: US Attorney
  • Tony Ryckoff: Brother of Victor.
  • Boone Falcon: One of Paul's brothers; finds Scott Hickory seascapes for Paul. Married to Vicky
  • Jack Chase: State Department official implicated on a tape sent by LS
  • Larry Jenkins: Medora resident who has someone drive into his pond during Ann's last days as Sheriff.
  • Paul Tudor Falcon: Adopted into the Falcon family but treated as the eldest son. It is planned he will inherit the Falcon family when his father dies. FBI Special Agent; An honest man who wants to do the right thing pleasing to God. At age 40 or so, decides he wants to get married. The first woman he then sees that attracts his attention decides he wants to marry her. Instead of talking and getting to know her, he talks to her friends to see how he should act and behave. He should be man enough to be himself for her to see if he is someone she would like.
  • Sullivan: FBI agent assigned to Paul's team; assigned to check out the car Ann's sending the FBI and find out what evidence was missed in the initial investigation.
  • Kevin: Cleaning up and renovating the Falcons restaurant.
  • Sara: Married to Adam--the subject of one of Ann's books, Danger in the Shadows

  • Trish: Waitress at Falcons; innocent bystander killed by Waters.
  • Charles Ash: Name that Paul believes might be the identity of the man who hired the lady assassin he's been tracking for a number of years.
  • Arnett: FBI agent that Paul sends to the lab with Ann's Diet Coke can; also assigned to the forged documents on the lady shooter case.
  • Virgil Hale: Older man who knows Kate and Ann--blows stuff up for a living.
  • Amy, Henry, Lou, Paula, Jenny, Karen, Nathan, Jeffrey, Melinda: Citizens of Alton, KY. Amy, and Paula were Verone's clients. Lou is Henry's son who got into trouble with Amy's son. Jenny and Karen are co-workers of Verone's.
