  • Abba May: The Marmee of Little Women- LaPlante's research shows that in her family of origin, she was a somewhat coddled "baby"and very close to her older brother Samuel Joseph (Called Sam Jo). LaPlante wonders if the family Abba grew up with- four sisters, and Sam Jo, the only at-home brother, was the family her daughter wrote about in Little Women- Laurie (and almost-brother) with Beth corresponding to one of Abba's older sisters- Abba herself, an inspiration for Amy?
  • Samuel Joseph May: Sam Jo, brother to Abigail May
  • Lucretia May: Wife of Samuel Joseph and Abba's beloved sister in law. Once Lucretia sets up housekeeping in Connecticutt, Abba spends more time in Lucretia's house than her home address!
