A light, enjoyable romance about a woman who marries for money in order to save her home.

This is an engaging romance of a marraige of convenience between a beautiful heiress in financial straits and a rich tycoon intent on marrying into high society. Elizabeth and Max are close to perfect- beautiful, rich, kind, caring, honest- even too perfect. They are supported by a secondary cast of family members who support them especially when a hitman was contracted to kill Elizabeth. The story is a bit formulaic and the plot too contrived but I did enjoy the story.

Elizabeth Stanton's ex ran off with a friend taking all of her assets with them. She had the family farm and the home in Houston. She has reached the end of her resources to save them. Maxwell Reardon, self-made gazillionaire from the wrong side of the tracks needs a wife to get him into Houston society circles. After the first shock of it, Elizabeth realizes that they both get what they want if they marry. Such fun and dangerous plot as well

    Absolutely riveting!

I can't begin to count the number of times I've read this book. I love Elizabeth's quiet dignity, sturdy backbone, and unwavering loyalty to those she cares about. Her relationship with Mimi is an absolute hoot and shows from where some of her characteristics developed. The way she responds to and eventually accept's Max's proposition, as well as how she deals with the man, is absolute entertainment.

When Max makes the marriage proposition, he has no idea the chain of events he sets in motion. Originally he looks at this as just another business deal, where both of them get something out of it, and he's honest and upfront about that. The feelings of possessiveness, his desire to keep her safe, and yes even love, come as a shock to Max. He struggles how to react not only to everything he learns about Elizabeth, but with the feelings she instigates in him.

Toss in steamy love scenes, multiple murder attempts, disapproving friends, and sweet old ladies with canes and crutches, and you're in for one sensual, fun, and fast-paced ride!

I love this book so much that I haven't even let my cousin read it yet! I'm not ready to loan it out or part with it!

The wealthy, socialite heroine was taken to the cleaners by her ex-husband, so much that she’s about to lose her home. The hero, an up-and-coming businessman, has decided it’s time to marry, and proposes a marriage of convenience between them. A real marriage, but for logical, sensible reasons. The heroine turns him down at first, because logic doesn’t impress her when it comes to marriage, but things happen that influence her to change her mind. And the marriage isn’t what either of them expected. There’s a mystery/suspense element—someone is trying to kill the heroine—but it’s more about the budding relationship. A nicely written story that’s worth reading.
