“thick imagery”

There were basically two stories going on simultaneously, that of a woman looking for her father and also the story of the person's upbringing, friends, general past.
However, the way the two stories were entertwined was a bit schizo. Instead of talking about childhood for a chapter, then going to the future for a chapter, then the past for a chapter, etc the story would jump back and forth sometimes in the same paragraph. It was hard to follow at times as you suddenly changed decades without any warning.
Also this resulted in something being said one part in the book, then being said again 50-100 pages letter. Sometimes the same thing was said over and over. The net result was you felt you like you were listening to some rambling old person who couldn't keep the train of thought going or some emotionally ill person who was telling you the same thing over and over again to purge the horrors of their life.
I would guess this is very autobiographical as this person seems almost to be doing a catharsis of a bad childhood through this book. Too bad as the general story was pretty good. I ended up skipping pages or paragraphs later in the book as some stuff just got too redundant.”
“Having trouble finishing this - I started it on a long train ride. The problem with obsessions (such as the one that claims the protagonist of this novel) is that they are so damned repetitive!”
