“You must understand, I AM A HUGE SHERRILYN KENYON FAN! I read every Dark Hunter book and most of her other books so when she came out with this young adult off shoot of the Dark Hunters, I sucked them right up. I read this book totally for me, I wanted it, I bought it and now I’m going to tell...”see full review » see other reviews »
“WoW, what an awesome book. So much in this book. I just love where Sherrilyn Kenyon is taking Nick in this series. Cannot wait until the next one comes out. I am a fan! ”July L wrote this review 8 days ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“The 4th and long awaited book in the Chronicles of Nick! I'm sure, if you are in any way, shape, or form, like me, you ran to the store to snatch up this book once you heard it hit the shelves! Well this book sucks you in and doesn't spit you out until the very last page, not that you would want it any other way! Nick's 16 and you think he'd be worrying about normal things, like girls and school, but being who he is, that's just not possible. In this epic installment in the best selling series, Nick is neck deep in enemies and pretty low on friends and people to trust. You'll be led on a thrilling adventure with a magnificent plot that will leave you waiting for your next fix. By the way: Illusion comes out April 1st, 2014...and if that's an April Fools joke, someone's gonna get it. ”The Wordsmith :) wrote this review Tuesday, August 20, 2013. “(Possible spoilers to the Dark-Hunter series) I really enjoy this version of Nick. It takes me back to when Nick was Kyrian's squire through the first several books in the Dark-Hunter series which is written for adults. You have to love this wild Cajun boy. I keep hoping he does find a way to change his future and he doesn't turn into the whining, sniveling, blame the whole world for my misfortune, Nick in the last half of the Dark-Hunter's series. ”Jacqueline R wrote this review Sunday, July 14, 2013. “This was a great book! It was fast paced and never slowed down. I read it in one sitting. The epilogue was a bit trippy though.”Romani wrote this review Sunday, July 7, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No

“I absolutely love this series, especially with such an awesome main character as Nick Gautier, but this newest installment to the series was a real let-down for me. There was something missing. It felt slightly disjointed. And it felt so off from what made the other books so great to me. I don't like the direction the novels are heading now - especially not with that epilogue. I don't know, it just seemed kinda stupid to me. I was really disappointed.
The writing also seemed off, too. It didn't feel like the same Nick - granted, a lot has happened to him, and it's understandable that he would change - but I don't know, his character felt overdone, and to the extreme. It didn't feel natural. In fact, the whole book felt a bit pushed. And half the novel seemed completely unnecessary.
Also, the whole thing with Kody in the beginning - I understand Nick's thinking and actions, but it happened so darn quickly and then the whole thing with "Casey" -- it was just weird. I remember reading and thinking how oddly paced this novel was. Nothing about it really felt right.
As usual, the fight scenes were awesome.. but that was basically it. Caleb seemed to be the only good thing about the novel to me.. but that's also because beside Nick, he's my favorite character. Nevertheless, I'm still going to continue reading these books, despite the fact that I know a hell of a lot of frustration will be coming my way.
All in all, not a great read. I'm kinda glad it's over. ”
