• This revised edition of "Volcanoes" features colour photographs and new sections on Pinatubo - the largest eruption of the 20th century, ongoing volcanic activity on the Caribbean island of Montserrat, and future developments in volcanology. The book covers late-1990s work on the monitoring and prediction of volcanic activity and "collapsing volcanoes", and contains additional information for understanding how volcanoes work, with the potential for large scale disasters.
