Not a bad book but had it figured out about half way through it. My first Robin Cook book and I do plan to read some more.

Two doctors, two different cities. What will they do? A surprise climax and a good read.

He's no Michael Crichton that's for sure. Cook seems to hit on about one book in five and this wasn't one of them. After reading so many of the Scarpetta novels and seeing what a real writer can do with details in the morgue (not to mention the fact that the stakes have been raised with a heightened reader knowledge base given the amount of CSI/crime drama shows on T.V.) it's kind of surprising that Cook didn't spend more time doing research in this area to get things right. Having a medical background is one thing, but you can't specialize in everything and I think that readers today expect more out of writers. If a character is going to supposedly have expertise in an area and you have that character working in a technical setting then you'd better get your details rights.

Beyond that I found the idea that a man would become so wrapped up in solving a case involving relatives he basically didn't have any contact with previously to the point of endangering his own wedding to be quite preposterous. Even more ridiculous was that his fiance would let him go off on this mission and then threaten not to marry him if he didn't show up on time for the wedding. What kind of relationship did these two people have??? And if they weren't sure after all this time then why were they still getting married? The whole thing was just a stupid and very obvious device to add pressure and suspense to the plot. Oh no - is he gonna make it to the church on time? Needless to say this is the last Cook book I'm going to pick up for the beach or the airport - I'm just not ever that bored!

Dr Craig Bowman is upset when he s served malpractice papers over the death of a patient, a patient he labled as a problem patient. He breaks up with his young lover, who he told all about his unhappiness w/this patient, and moved back with his wife and three daughters. The much younger husband of the deceased has hired a crackpot lawyer who is betting on riches from the malpractice suit. Dr. Jack Stapleton, a medical examiner in New York and Dr. Bowman's brother in law comes to Boston to help his sister and brother in law out. When he notices there was no autopsy done, he sees about having one done, and that's when the trouble starts. Someone has something to hide, but who?
