“I guess every author must write a bomb some time. I've always enjoyed Austen's penchant for slow, rich character development and minute detail, but the plot of this book drags on for chapter after chapter with little of interest. Fanny is a milquetoast heroine, too timid to even be truly conflicted about being constantly misused and overlooked. The real love story is blurted out as a mere two paragraph suffix to the story, and the only real plot twist comes in the final chapter. It has many moments of wit, but the storytelling was a complete letdown.”
