Short, sweet and to the point. Sam Harris's follow-up to The End of Faith may not convince many of the "ruling elite" (ie: American Christians) but it is a balm for the rest of us who often feel isolated and perhaps even a little freakish.

Buy this book. Hell, buy a lot of copies and give them to your well meaning but delusional friends who have yet to critically examine their belief in talking snakes and invisible cloud dwellers. You'll be doing them a favor, and they'll thank you afterward. Or they'll pray that your immortal soul is saved from eternal hellfire. Or, if you've chosen your friends badly, cast into it...

A concise list of everything you might think is wrong with anyone who is religious, bundled into this delightful book you can throw at them.

The first book I read in my mission to really understand the GOD QUESTION. Granted, I'll probably be pretty slanted toward the nay-sayers, especially since reading more about quantum physics (for dummies). Letter to a Christian Nation is what the title suggests--it's short, direct, unapologetic and probably meant by the author to actually get people reading and debating the issue more. Especially the Christian majority who, regardless of their level of fervor, simply cannot find a winning argument. They always simply refer to the bible. In all honesty, I wish I did believe in God, it would be a pleasure to have something or someone to turn to in times of need or sadness. But it's just so crystal clear: anyone with even a hint of rationality cannot accept many, if not most, of what is in the bible. It doesn't make any sense. What scares me is that the majority of the US population would like the 10 Commandments in every school room! The majority are actually comfortable with government being based on Christian standards. Anyway, if it's a short, succinct argument on why people don't need Jesus to be good people, or even really smart people, this is it. I'm graduating to Richard Dawkins Blind Watchmaker and God Delusion. I expect to read yet more evidence and a trip down Darwin's evolution highway.

Wow! Mr. Harris is pretty serious about the affects religion has on our world. Very logically constructed and very enlightening! ~ Judy VanAcker

This is the only book I've ever enjoyed so much, I was able to read it cover to cover in one sitting -
and then turned it over and read it all the way through, again!

borrowed from adam henry. a great, structured argument against ideas like intelligent design. clever, and humble enough to be as inoffensive as possible.

An atheist manifesto, debunking the mythology of Christianity and pointing out the destructiveness and danger of Christianity.

Harris presents a strong set of arguments against the religious society in the USA. Sure, this will offend people, but nearly all points he makes are well founded and hard to contradict. I agree fully with the point that moderate believe is as bad as fundamental belief: either god exists and its all true, or it isn't. There is no middle ground from a logical point of view.
