“What I like about this series, similar to the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde, is that each book tends to change slightly in tone and focus. If the fourth book was touchy-feely and feminine, this fifth book is far more ramped up on testosterone and aggression. The further clarification of Claudine’s role is welcome, and retroactively removes some of the residual “yeah-right” effect she had from her previous appearances. And I think this may be the first book in which Sookie doesn’t actually get laid. A clean, swift diversion that keeps the series from becoming stale. ”
