A stunning, sweeping retelling of the Arthurian legend for the 20th century and beyond. Only a medievalist who's madly in love with his subject matter could have accomplished this jaw-dropping work. It has every literary virtue--it's laugh-out-loud funny more often than not, doesn't get bogged...

Kind of boring. I mean, I'm all for the King Arthur story and all, but this... There were some things in there that had nothing to do with the story and it got really dry really quickly. Eh...

Once in a while I stumble upon an author whose ability to capture thoughts in words is simply incredible. I feel that T. H. White's book was just such a find, and it is absolutely one of my favorites. He obviously knew his subject extensively, but had the gift of being able to share that without seeming pedantic. His intruded thoughts, such as why Thomas Malory's chronicle is called "The Death of Arthur" when so much of it regards his life, have stuck with me. And I absolutely love the ability he showed in capturing the emotion of the dog dying during the hunt for the great boar. Powerful, powerful.

From style to depth to knowledge, this book seems to have it.

I read this in my twenties and was just blown away at the detail and original old English style of writing. It is a book that I remember as the reason I love to read.

My mom started to read this aloud to me in fifth grade and I finished it on my own my freshman year of college. I loved the whole story, but for a pick-me-up, whimsical story only read the first half.

I love this book! It is a great King Arthur story. It is easy to read and once you get going is hard to put down.

Very funny and yet tragic at the same time. Knowing the basic bones of the love triangle of Arthur, Guenever and Lancelot made the affair so much harder to read. I found myself talking to the book, saying things like "No dont do that!" and "Lance, how could you!".... I seem to get very involved in the story. All in all a very good tale, I highly recommend it.

I feel sorry for all the kids that are made to read this in school. It is difficult to follow for most of the story, and the only common thread through each of the books is the main characters. However, each book is different enough from the others that it feels almost as if you are reading four separate books. It was just not all that interesting to read.
