Ridiculously Simplified Synopsis edit

- Charlie Parker: Former NYPD detective. Resigned affter his family was killed and is now a private eye.
- Harlon Vetters: Man who died at the beginning of the book but had rescued a 12 year old boy years ago and knew about the strange things in the woods.
- Barney Shore: 12 year old boy that was rescued from the woods by Harlon Vetters.
- Paul Scollay: Long time friend of Harlon Vetters. Committed suicide because he was dying of cancer. He and Harlon Vetters once found an airplane in the Great North Woods.
- Fulci Brothers: Very large gangster type brothers that occasionally do odd jobs for Charlie Parker
- Ernie Scollay: Paul Scollay's brother. Accompanied Harlon Vector's daughter to talk to Parker.
- Marielle Vetters: Harlon Vetter's daughter. Came with Ernie Scallay to talk to Charlie Parker.
- Jackie Garner: Occasionally worked for Charlie Parker. Close friend of the Fulcis brothers.
- Darina Flores: Woman with many names and who is "so much more".
- Brightwell the Believer: A killer of men and women; a harvester and a repository of souls; a being whose image appeared in phographs from the Second World War, hardly different from the face of the man who had still been murdering for his cause sixty years later and who bore a startling resemblence to a figure in a painting centuries old.
- Barbara Kelly: Cancer victim. Has trusted in several cults as well as the church for a cure.
- Caroline: Being with many names, appears human
- William "Billy": Something posing as Caroline's son, may be something like Brightwell The Believer.
- Chris and Andrea Foster: Couple from New York lost in the Great North woods during a hiking trip.
- Aaron Newman: A reporter with a New York City newspaper and one of the names on the list found with the plane.
- Davis Tate: A talk radio shock jock, a minor celebrity and a name on "the list".
- Solene Escott & Kenneth Chan (Kenny): Solene died in an car crash several months before the plane crash but her name was also on "the list". Kenneth was her husband. also on "the list"
- Brandon Felice: Only name on "the list" to be marked as "Refused". All of the above had been involved in a software start-up, Branken Developments Inc.
- Beatrice Lozano nee Reed and Perry Reed: Beatrice was a case that Charlie Parker was paid by her husband to investigate;Perry Reed is her brother.
- Alex Wilder: Friend and right-hand man of Perry Reed. They shared everything.
- Angel and Louis: Gay lovers and hired hit-men from New York who work for Charlie Parker.
- Grady Vetters and Teddy Gattle: Grady is Harlon Vetters son and Teddy is his best friend since childhood. Teddy left Falls End but returns frequently.
- Gordon Walsh: A detective that worked out of the Maine State Police's Southern Major Crimes Unit in Gray.
- Mr. Epstein: a Rabbi whose son was killed by Bightwell.
- Walter Cole: Retired police detective and Charlie's former partner.
