Death of a Gentle Lady

by M. C. Beaton

Gentle by name, gentle by nature. Everyone in the sleepy Scottish town of Lochdubh adores elderly Mrs. Gentle - everyone but Hamish Macbeth, that is. Got interested because of a library review, but just couldn't get into it. Didn't feel a compelling need to finish this one.

Not the best of her Hamish Macbeth novels. It's okay, but the characters come across as self-absorbed and self-pitying. She's done better.

Although this is not my favorite book, Hamish Macbeth is one of my favorite fictional characters.
Marion Beaton writes so well you can almost feel the fierce winds of the Scotish Highlands as the policeman solves yet another mysterious death. This time the reader does not sympathize with the victim!

Almost married yet again! Hamish is a hoot, as usual.

This is the latest Hamish Macbeth mystery -- all have been good, especially if you love reading about small Scottish towns. This one is also great -- Hamish ALMOST gets married!
