Like many who have read this book, I too was a fan of the games and wanted to learn more about the Myst universe. Plus the appearance of the book itself was pretty enticing (I'm happy I was able to get it in hardback). |
“An exceptional book. Absolutely fantastic. Recommended to all Myst fans, and anyone who enjoys reading books with the sci-fi and fantasy genres rolled into one.”

It's certainly recommended if you've played the series at any point. I found the book incredibly interesting and the storyline and characters were nicely developed and intriguing.”

Fortunately, you do not need any prior knowledge about the game at all to enjoy this book. I found the premise and characters interesting enough, but definitely had problems at times with the actual writing, which is not so much a surprise since the books are written by the creators of the games. Despite this (I have after al,l read more poorly written books by people who are actually "writers") I did find myself to be interested in the characters and what would happen to them. As the reader you follow young Artus from his infancy to his 18th year, part of which is lived with his grandmother, Anna, and the rest of which is "lived" (I am not sure you can really claim that he is really living with his belligerent, selfish, naive, father) with his father below ground in the ruins of ancient D'Ni. A somewhat quick read that presents the reader with new and interesting ideas about writing and magic. Good, but not stellar.”
