This book is a piece of crap. I am a trained sociologist and am always interested in good work on race and achievement. McWhorter is a linguist and actually quite a good one. So I was interested to see what he would have to say about this issue.

Almost from the very first sentence, it is clear that he is out of his depth writing as a sociologist. He seems to have ignored all the strong, peer-reviewed research in sociology and social psychology instead choosing to substitute his...
