OK. Too long. Flipped between past and present each chapter. Diffuclut to follow.

A suspenseful, page-turner. Just like you would expect from Kate Morton.

A lovely book - plenty of twists in the plot to keep it really interesting the whole way through. Loved the character development and beautiful descriptions of the settings and thoughts.
I'm looking forward to reading some other books by this author.

I alway enjoy reading Kate Morton, and it's amazing that each one, though similar, can carry a different plot with the characters so unique you still just love reading it. I especially loved the ending of this book, can't say much more because I don't want to give anything away. I think this is my favorite one so far. This book makes you think about the life your mother lead before you were born and wish so much you would have asked more questions about her joys, her likes, her loves and and feelings. Just loved the book.

I usually like Kate Morton's writing style and plots, but this one was just a tad too slow for my liking. It had a great plot twist at the end that I had not seen coming, so that was a great surprise! Overall, it had a good plot and it really started taking off in the second part of the book.

481 pgs. Kate Morton's newest novel is one full of twists and turns that kept me guessing into the book's final pages. When Laurel was a young girl she witnessed an encounter between her mother and a stranger on a country road. What she saw that day will never leave her and leads her on a journey seeking the truth about who her mother really was before she got married and had a family. This previous life takes place in the 1940s and involves Dorothy, Vivien and Jimmy. The three become connected in a unique way that will change their lives forever. I always look forward to reading Kate Morton's books and she is one of my favorite authors. I was a little disappointed at the beginning of the book because I wasn't swept into the story as quickly as I usually am. I felt that the jumping around in time got a bit confusing and the order in which she chose to reveal events made the story hard to follow at first. However, as the story went on I became intrigued and just wanted to get it all figured out! Morton's beautiful writing style and intricate storytelling won me over in the end as every question I had was answered and I loved the ending! Even though it didn't work out the way I'd hoped it would, I think all the characters were left in a place where they could happily move forward. The only novel I have left to read by Morton now is The Forgotten Garden and I am really looking forward to it!

A daughter (in 2011) seeks to find the reason (in the 1940's) why her mother killed a man (in the 1970's). Held my interest throughout & surprised me with a twist at the end. A VERY enjoyable read.
