What a great character and the plot is exciting. I love the Companions and want one of my own.

I actually found myself extremely disappointed in this book. I found it extremely boring and painful to read. The characters did not seem very developed, and the plot left something to be desired. Overall I found it a total bore, and was shocked I was still awake on the last page.

It was fun to learn more about Alberich's history.

Another great story about Valdemar. I really enjoyed learning about Alberich and where he came from.

    Another compelling character.

I really enjoy the Valdemar books, but for the common reader a few notes... If you're homophobic don't read them, this author is very open about alternative lifestyles and it can sometimes interfere with the story line. My husband liked these books, but I don't see a lot of men enjoying them. It almost (but not quite) crosses the line between fantasy and romance. I still really enjoyed them and I have to say I haven't met a romance book I've liked yet. Because of the unique approach these books read like no other fantasy book I've ever read and I give them very high marks. I actually ready most of the books written by Mercedes Lackey in about a months time I enjoyed them so much (much to my husbands dismay).

Although this book has been dumbed down (she points out her subtleties not once, but twice), it really is a very good story. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series and the rest of her books.

Alberich was doing well in the Karsite military, or so he thought, till he was ambushed by his own people and rescued by a white "demon horse" from Valdemar. Now he has to find his way as Weaponsmaster in a land that has always been his country's enemy, proving to himself that they are not his enemy, and proving to them that he is not theirs.

Alberich (with Skif) has always been my fav Valdemar character from the other books i read, so i was excited to read how he was Chosen. Good story and he's awesome as usual. I prefer this one to the second part, Exile's valor which while he's still grumpy and amazing with a weapon as usual, Selenay gets on my nerves with her whole falling in love with the prince bit.

This is the first book from this author that I read. I have been in love with her writings ever since. Unfortunately I am almost finished with all of the Herolds of Valdemar series I hope I can find something else that has a similar style when I come to the end...
