This was very good. A stick with you story. Pia lives, without realizing it, like a caged animal, in the interior of the Amazon. She is immortal and is destined to create more immortals like her with the help of Paolo and a group of scientists. But then she goes into the world and meets a boy. I enjoyed the characters and the plot. The ending was edge of the seat type of action.

This book was so unique. It wasn't like anything that I've read in a looooong time! It was a little slow, but had a great story line.

Really interesting story of mortality. Had me thinking about vampires and an episode of stargate where people had no children. Well told story that will make you think about more than just the nicely woven plot and interesting characters.

Imagine you are growing up in a laboratory, surrounding by scientists, no else your age. You are sheltered, never allowed in the outside world, never allowed to see a map, watch a movie, or read a book that is not related to the work in the lab. Then, imagine you are the subject of the lab's experiments. This is the situation for Pia, a 17-year old girl who happens to be immortal. She was created by the scientists in the lab, and although she loves them, and thinks of them as her family, she wonders what it's like outside of the lab. Then one day a tree falls over and creates a hole in the fence and Pia climbs through. There she meets a boy, and her life is forever changed. Pia was a brilliant drawn character. The situations she faced were not easy and she struggled with them in a mature and thoughtful, but realistic way. Highly recommended.

Pia is perfect. Genetically engineered to be immortal, she has been trained from childhood to become a scientist, with the sole purpose of creating more like herself, and one day populating the world with immortals. The night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the fence of the jungle compound where she has spent her entire life. On the other side she meets Eio, a native boy her own age, and her life is turned upside down. Suddenly she finds herself questioning her purpose in life as well as the truth behind her creation.

I loved this book! It was fast-paced and exciting, and kept me guessing until the end.

Immortality had been discovered in the Amazon. Pia is the missing link to a new race of Immortals and she is being trained to carry on the legacy. One day she has an opportunity to escape the compound for a few hours and she discovers a village full of natives. What she sees and learns about life outside the compound changes what she has learned about her existance and her future.

A really good read, I held on to every chapter. Pia is such a different character and such a different idea, that it makes it worth the read.
