The eponymous porcine iconoclast is back! Olivia, ranting about her pink-and-pretty princess-obsessed cohorts (both boys and girls) imitates Martha Graham and muckrakers, goes as a warthog for Halloween, and puts together a tasteful sailor suit. At the end Ian Falconer adds a tongue-in-cheek joke for his devoted adult audience, which will fly over the head of kids (and those not in the know) but entertain them regardless.

Olivia is asserting her individuality by not wanting to be a fairy princess just like everyone else in her class. In typical Olivia fashion, she figures out how she can make herself stand out from the sheep-like conformity of her peers.

    Great illustrations.
