- Abby Sinclair: TouchStone for the Protectorate, serving as the anchor for Moira so that she can enter and leave the human world. Also a KeyStone (who can make a Contract as a TouchStone with more than one person) and a Dreamer. She's also the TouchStone for Benjamin and Talivar. She recently discovered her father is Thomas, the Faery Queen's steward and consort.
- Talivar: Faery prince. Moira's brother and Abby's bodyguard and lover.
- Brystion: Daemon and Abby's former lover. Also called Ion.
- Moira: Protectorate and Benjamin's mother. She's the Faery princess, daughter of the Faery Queen and Abby's half sister (they share the same father).
- Melanie St. James: Extraordinary violinist and a TouchStone. Good friend of Abby's.
- Nobu: Daemon who Abby struck a deal with to save Talivar and Brystion as well as prevent an all scale war.
- True Thomas of Ercildune: Steward and consort to the Faery Queen.
- Benjamin: Moira and Robert's son.
- Robert: Angel and former bodyguard to Moira. Father of Benjamin and Charlie's lover.
- Charlie: Robert's TouchStone and lover. Good friend of Abby's. She's also a ghost whisperer.
- Phineas: Unicorn sent by Thomas to look out for Abby. She's his TouchStone and he stays with her.
- Maurice Delacroix: Former courtTouchStone for the Protectorate who unleashed a diabolical plan to permanently serve in the Fae world. He's been held as a prisoner by the Fae Court.
- Topher Fitzroy: Painter who became terminally ill and created paintings of Abby, Melanie and other TouchStones. He betrayed them and joined Maurice in his scheme. He's now been left to Sonja for her brand of justice.
- Sonja: Brystion's sister, a succubus
- Jimmy Squarefoot: Lesser Fae of the Barras, pig-faced
- Kitsune: Lesser Fae fox-woman with mysterious power
- Roweena DuMont: Fae liaison
- Brandon: Bartender and owner of the Hallows, a bar for OtherFolk. He's a werewolf.
- Didi: Pixie who is a PETA advocate
- Queen of Elfland: Faery queen, Moira and Talivar's mother, who is bordering madness after having been poisoned

- Lethe water: Water from the River Styx which causes complete loss of memory when consumed.
- Geas: Magically imposed obligation or prohibition
- TouchStone: Mortal who provide OtherFolk the ability to cross between worlds by contract.
- KeyStone: Normally a place or object but in rare instances a mortal, providing abilities similar to a TouchStone but through easier, almost instant connection without a contract.
- Incubus: Male daemon who gains power by providing orgasms to Dreamers while they sleep.
- Succubus: Female daemon who gains power by providing orgasms to Dreamers while they sleep.
- Light Path: Occupied by the angels and OtherFolk who are incorruptible.
