  • Thing: An assembly of all free Norse men and women to adjudicate disputes.
  • Eystribyggo: Eastern settlement of Greenland. The larger of two settlements established by Erik the Red around 986 A.D.
  • skraeling: A catch-all term for foreigners used by Norse Vikings, especially in regard to the peoples they encountered in the new world.
  • saex: A machete-like blade carried by Vikings.
  • strandhogg: Most likely what the Vikings became most famous for, a strandhogg is a lightening attack to reprovision their ships. They took riches, livestock, food, women, children, etc.

  • Fate: Halldorr has many plans throughout his life and must come to terms over and again that they are often not to be.
  • Faith: The Vikings were followers of their old gods of Odin and Thor and their two main god dynasties until the late 10th Century when Christianity began to firmly take root. It was a time of confusion for those living as to what they would hold in their hearts as their own beliefs.
