“well-written, knowledgeable, fascinating conjunction (collision) of science and Appalachia. I only wish Dellarobia (great name!) ended with a better choice.”

Though the language is lovely, I got tired of getting hit over the head with the 'global warming is bad' theme. I get it; I really do. Already did actually, but I don't think this book will change any minds. I did like the character development and setting.”

Yes | No“Barbara Kingsolver not only tells a tale of global warming, she raises awareness of prejudice between educated people and less educated people. If you love the monarch butterfly, this story will scare you. Imagine that the winter nesting sites are destroyed due to landslides. The monarchs choose a forest on a mountain in Tennessee that is part of Dellarobia Turnbow's in-law's farm. Dellarobia is a farm wife who longs for something more. She just doesn't see how to achieve it. A mother of two young children, she is the first to discover the butterflies. Sightseers and scientists, science and faith, farmers and environmentalists collide. But us there a solution when man has mishandled nature?
This book would be great as a fiction companion to an environmental studies class. It would also go well with a study of the monarch migration. ”
“loved it; ”

Real characters and insightful ecological plot and family relationship subplot. ”
