Sophia follows the Wiccan ways and was outed to the town by her bi-polar Mother. It doesn't help that her Mother belongs to a church with religious fanatics who are out to get her. On top of that, Sophia witnesses a horrible murder a while ago who many in the town believed she had something to do with. Oh yea, and she also hears voices...
I was told that this book has a Twilight feel and I do have to say that in the beginning, I could see that. Sophia is a bit awkward and Charles is drawn to her but doesn't want to be. He's brutally honest but can't stay away from her. He drinks blood but only from animals.
But then the story takes a left turn and becomes so much more....so so much more. In fact, maybe way too much more. There's the blood drinkers and dual breeds, witches, ghosts or spirits, reincarnations, shape shifters, elementals, telekinetics and telepaths and that's not all. I really enjoyed the story but there was just so much! Maybe I just really wanted more Charles and Sophia...at least we do get a bit of romance.
The whole story with what's happening with the dual breeds and the elementals (I know it's a bit confusing but it would take way too long to explain it all in this review) and The Council is really intriguing. I felt horrible with what happened with Charles but can't wait to meet the other elementals. I just hope that we continue to have more Sophia and Charles.
